Chunky Hairpin Crochet

I never really tried this before, as its often done using laceweight, with very open patterns. However, it can be done with chunky yarn, as in this example:

I used 2 types of chunky yarn, a hairpin loom with prongs 2.5" apart, and a 5mm hook.
About  300g of each colourway. One was Creative Rico Essentials melange chunky, the other was King Cole drifter chunky, colourway 'Como.'

I am pleased at how this is coming along.Only about 2 more strips and a border to do, then pockets.

I like this plaited look, its quite stretchy but not too much. Using two kinds of variegated yarn adds to the texture, I think.

Ta da! Finished at last. I have a feeling this won't be the last one I make this year...
Crochet Now magazine have commissioned me to make one in another colourway, and they will hopefully  publish the pattern in their January 2021edition. Looking forward to  working with them.
Love how they styled this.

Meanwhile, with a 4mm hook and prongs 4cm apart, I am making a stashbuster baby blanket with acrylic DK.
